Morgan & Morgan to Hold Press Conference to Address the Alleged Bullying-Related Death of Rebecca Sedwick
(PRWEB) October 23, 2013 -- Morgan & Morgan will hold a press conference to address the death of Rebecca Sedwick, a 12-year-old Florida girl who, authorities say, committed suicide after relentless bullying from classmates. The press conference will take place on Thursday, October 24th at the firm’s Tampa office at 9 a.m. The office is located at 201 N. Franklin Street, 7th Floor.

Although police say that more than a dozen girls may have been involved in the bullying of Sedwick, only two girls, ages 12 and 14, were arrested in connection with the death. The girls were charged with felony aggravated stalking, according to an Oct. 15 ABC article.*
The alleged bullying began in December 2012, and stemmed from a dispute over a boy both Sedwick and the 14-year-old suspect had dated, ABC News reports. The 14-year-old began to “harass and ultimately torment” Sedwick, according to ABC News citing Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd, sending her Facebook messages calling her ugly and telling her to “drink bleach and die.” Police said that the alleged bullying continued, leading to confrontations at school and at least one physical altercation. It was reported by ABC News that the 14-year-old recruited one of Sedwick’s former friends – the 12-year-old suspect – in the bullying.
“It used to be a parent could be relatively assured that their kids were safe in their room, but that’s no longer the case. A computer in a child’s bedroom is their porthole to the outside world,” Henry said. “Cyberbullying has become a pervasive problem among our children and it needs to stop.”
