Morgan Worthy Announces Release of ‘Animal Eye Colors’
Marietta, GA (PRWEB) August 21, 2013 -- Author and psychologist Morgan Worthy presents the findings of decades of research into the relationship between animals’ eye color and behavior in his fascinating nonfiction, “Animal Eye Colors: Yellow-eyed Stalkers, Red-eyed Skulkers & Black-eyed Speedsters” (published by iUniverse).
Putting together a database of animal eye colors was a daunting task, and it was only after retiring that Worthy had enough time to fully devote himself to the project. He visited many libraries, including the Library of Congress and the Wildlife Library at the Department of the Interior, and meticulously recorded data from a variety of field guides.
“The purpose of the database is to make it easier for animal researchers to compare species eye colors with other physical, physiological and behavioral traits,” Worthy explains. “It also provides the information needed to make comparisons at higher taxonomic levels such as family or order.”
“Animal Eye Colors” lists the eye colors for 5,620 species of animals. Worthy includes information on thousands of species of birds and hundreds of species of mammals, reptiles and amphibians. A theoretical pattern is offered to show a correlation between animal iris pigmentation and behavior.
“The most important thing to me in publishing this book,” Worthy writes, “is that now, whenever someone wants to include eye color as a variable in animal research, he or she will not have to start from scratch as I did.”
