ELK GROVE, Calif. (PRWEB) February 11, 2015 -- Unveiling what its author sees as embedded mysteries often undiscovered by members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the new book by Vern Porter titled “Will the Real Mormons Stand Up and Sound the Alarm?” (published by Archway Publishing) shares Porter’s discoveries of the potentially unpleasant side of the Mormon Church.
One-third of Porter’s new book is an autobiographical account of his experiences with the Mormon Church in the town of Pacheco and the cities of Martinez, Concord, Chico, Orland, Lodi and Elk Grove, California. He also served a two-year mission in the deep South, through Georgia, Alabama and South Carolina. The rest of the book contains a short, chronological history of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and Porter’s commentary on its origins and doctrine.
“The Mormons have long been a controversial people,” Porter says. “My book contains autobiographical material showing my efforts to confront Mormon zealots and expose their false interpretations of the scriptures.”
“Will the Real Mormons Stand Up and Sound the Alarm” brings together what Porter sees as discriminatory and negative aspects of the Mormon Church and insight into the foundations of behavior he knew were meant to drive him from the church.
“I would like readers to understand that although the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has some zealots in it, more Latter-day Saints are better examples of the Christian lifestyle than the general membership of other churches,” Porter says.
