Morrison & Foerster Named U.S. Cyber Crime Firm of the Year by Legal 500
New York/San Diego (PRWEB) June 15, 2015 -- In recognition of its leading Global Privacy and Data Security Group, Morrison & Foerster has been named the 2015 U.S. Cyber Crime Firm of the Year by Legal 500.
Cementing the firm’s reputation as a leading cybersecurity and privacy firm, Legal 500 has honored MoFo for the second straight year – the firm was also named the 2014 TMT Regulatory Firm of the Year based on its privacy and data security work. The awards are based on feedback from 250,000 in-house lawyers interviewed during the year and on research conducted by Legal 500, the world’s largest legal guide.
One of the most widely respected practices of its kind, MoFo’s Global Privacy and Data Security Group is at the forefront in advising clients on cybersecurity and incident response preparedness. The group has helped clients respond to hundreds of emergency situations, and has provided counsel on several of the most noteworthy and largest security incidents over the past few years.
This honor follows a series of developments for MoFo’s privacy practice. Earlier this year, Washington and San Diego-based partner Andrew Serwin was named co-chair of the Global Privacy and Data Security group. Mr. Serwin also joined the board of the National Cyber-Forensics & Training Alliance, whose mission is to harness efforts by government, business, and academia to neutralize cyber crime.
MoFo also expanded its privacy practice in Europe, where policymakers and tech companies are looking to create globally accepted standards for data security. Well-known privacy lawyers Lokke Moerel and Alex van der Wolk joined the firm, respectively, bringing their deep regulatory and compliance expertise to the firm’s European practice. Among Europe’s best-known privacy lawyers, Ms. Moerel also recently joined the Dutch Cyber Security Council, which advises business and government parties on digital security matters.
“We are honored by Legal 500’s recognition of us as Cyber Crime Firm of the Year – it’s gratifying to be recognized by our peers and clients for the work we do in advising on the most complex and challenging cyber security matters worldwide,” said Mr. Serwin, who was named by Security magazine to its list of the “25 Most Influential Industry Thought Leaders.”
“We’re at a point where virtually every organization – including those with the most sophisticated cyber defenses – faces operational, reputational, and even existential risks associated with data and information breaches,” added Miriam Wugmeister, global co-chair of Morrison & Foerster’s Privacy and Data Security Group. “Our goal is to help clients stay ahead of the risk curve with actionable, up-to-date legal advice on confronting all of their cyber security issues. This is MoFo’s standard, and we’re pleased to be showcased by Legal 500 for work in the field.”
