Mossback Fish Habitat Attends Friends of Reservoirs Meeting This October
Springdale, AR (PRWEB) November 20, 2014 -- From October 25-28, three administrators from Mossback Fish Habitat attended the Friends of Reservoirs Meeting in Athens, Texas. Held at the Texas Freshwater Fisheries Center, the event was designed to help encourage awareness and knowledge of the latest reservoir habitat restoration techniques. Accordingly, the fifth annual meeting of the Friends of Reservoirs organization featured a number of workshops which focused on everything from grant writing to habitat restoration techniques.
The Mossback Fish Habitat administrators who attended the event included David King, the President and owner; Andy Benson, the Sales and Marketing Manager; and Ray Stewart, the Operations Manager. The men say they attended the event in order to further their knowledge, as well as make and maintain relationships within the industry.
"The purpose of Mossback's attendance was two-fold," said Benson. "We wanted to learn more about habitat restoration from those currently working on projects nationwide as well as identify potential partners to work with towards the common goal of habitat restoration."
When it comes to accomplishing these goals, Mossback Fish Habitat believes that the Friends of Reservoirs Meeting is one of the best resources available.
"There is a very large grassroots movement promoting habitat replacement for aging reservoirs nationwide," said Benson. "The genuine concern for the loss of habitat is bringing academia, state agencies and the private sector together to address the issue."
The Friends of Reservoirs Meeting had scheduled one central workshop, which was set to last all-day Saturday, October 25 and end the following day at noon. While the workshop's agenda was designed to be fluid, topics were expected to cover a number of the best practices for restoring and conserving reservoir habitats, such as the reduction of sedimentation and turbidity, techniques to improve water quality, and ways to add brush or artificial structures.
Members of the Friends of Reservoirs organization were invited to share their current projects with the conference. The event also promised attendees a hands-on tour of the Texas Freshwater Fisheries Center's onsite aquatic plant nursery, as well as a banquet and social to be held on the evening of the 25th. To encourage attendance, the Friends of Reservoirs board encouraged their members to bring non-members of conservation-minded groups, and also promised to pay for one room per member to help reduce travel costs.
