Mother Aims to Help Children Learn About Science and Technology with Zubi Flyer, Now Available on Kickstarter
Salt Lake City, UT (PRWEB) September 13, 2016 -- The Zubi Flyer, the first ‘hackable’ frisbee on the market that teaches real code to kids in a fun, simple way, has launched on Kickstarter.
The inventor, a Salt Lake City mother of three daughters, came up with the idea after she tried in vain to find products that would introduce and engage her children in learning more about science and technology.
“The products I brought into my home were either so dumbed-down they were closer to condescending than educational, or so high-level they even left me intimidated…there was nothing in between,” said Kristy Sevy, Chief Executive Officer and Co-founder of FUZE Interactive. “My girls needed an advanced educational product to teach them things I didn't even know yet, and it had to be something that made learning alongside them comfortable for me, too. Most importantly, it needed to ignite their passion for technology instead of squelching their excitement.”
Working with her entrepreneur brother, Kyle Muir, the two founded FUZE Interactive and developed their first product – the Zubi Flyer.
Designed in the shape of a Frisbee-disc, the Zubi Flyer first allows children to build the device, then hack into nine different light and sound games with a ‘magic’ wand – games include Hot Potato, Pong and Catch the Light.
Kids can also connect the Zubi Flyer to their computers to learn how to actually code the lights, buzzers and games on the device – or change the programs entirely.
“We founded our company to focus on S.T.E.A.M. – Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math, and the Zubi Flyer was the result,” Sevy said. “The product brings together real technology and straight-forward, hands-on play. We think the Zubi Flyer will resonate with children and their parents, introducing both to high-level science concepts in a straightforward and fun way.”
The product may also pave the way to get more of America’s girls involved in math and science at an early age. According to a recent article in the New York Times, fewer girls are going into the scientific field in the United States, Britain and Canada today compared to several non-Western countries.
