Mount Sinai − National Jewish Health Respiratory Institute Opens in New York City
New York, NY (PRWEB) June 08, 2015 -- The Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai and National Jewish Health, the nation’s leading respiratory hospital based in Denver, today announced the official opening of the Mount Sinai − National Jewish Health Respiratory Institute at Mount Sinai’s campus in Manhattan. The partnership creates a strong, integrated program for diagnosis and treatment of respiratory illness and lung disease, including asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and interstitial lung disease (ILD).
National Jewish Health is the only institution in the nation dedicated to research and treatment of respiratory disease for both adults and children. The Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai is ranked among the top medical schools in the United States and is the medical education and research hub for the Mount Sinai Health System, one of the country’s largest not-for-profit, multi-site health care systems in the country. The Mount Sinai Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine houses world-class programs in sarcoidosis, lung cancer, critical care medicine, genomics and immunological sciences.

The Respiratory Institute uses the multidisciplinary approach employed by National Jewish Health in its outpatient programs. Pulmonologists collaborate with specialists in related disciplines, including cardiology, allergy, gastroenterology, rheumatology, ENT, and thoracic surgery, to provide team-based, patient-centered care. The Respiratory Institute also draws on Mount Sinai’s programs in personalized medicine, genomics, and data-driven clinical protocols to enhance the quality and outcomes of the respiratory disease practice.

The Respiratory Institute is led Dr. Powell as CEO and Louis DePalo, MD, Clinical Director. Dr. Powell is the Janice and Coleman Rabin Professor and Chief of the Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine at the Icahn School of Medicine. Dr. DePalo is the Lane Associate Professor in the Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai.
