Mousetrappe Wins Visual Effects Society VES Award
Burbank, CA (PRWEB) February 26, 2014 -- Burbank, California-based Mousetrappe has won this year’s VES Award for Outstanding Visual Effects in a Special Venue Project from the Visual Effects Society for the studio’s celebrated work on the work on the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex, Space Shuttle Atlantis℠ attraction.
Launched for the public in June 2013 at Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex, this attraction is the breathtaking $100 million, 90,000 square-foot new home for Space Shuttle Atlantis. It tells the inspirational story of NASA’s 30-year Space Shuttle Program through the eyes of Atlantis. As the Show and Visual Effects Producer, Mousetrappe designed and produced all of the media content for the attraction's pre-show, main show, and large LED scenic wall behind the orbiter.

Accomplishing the visual effects on Space Shuttle Atlantis was no small task. The attraction’s main theater is highly irregular in shape, featuring a large format screen framed by four proscenium arches that are all projectable surfaces. Mousetrappe’s team brought its technological expertise and proven background in creating unique projection based environments to the forefront. In order to provide the audience with a visual experience similar to that of a 360-degree theater, the team devised a unique production method, which allows Mousetrappe to seamlessly project content throughout the space. When viewed in context at the theater, the visuals, which are projected in 8K resolution, created a stunning, immersive environment.
Mousetrappe’s development and media work was conducted on behalf of Delaware North Companies Parks & Resorts, operators of Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex for NASA, as well as PGAV Destinations and Nassal.
Mousetrappe’s creative team members Daren Ulmer and Cedar Connor, along with John Gross and Christian Bloch were honored to accept this award at the VES ceremony. Eden FX was retained by Mousetrappe to create and produce digital sequences, which are interwoven throughout the media. Gross (now at Muse VFX) and Bloch worked on this project for Eden FX.
The VES Awards are the yearly celebration recognizing outstanding visual effects artistry and innovation in film, animation, television, commercials and video games and the VFX supervisors, VFX producers and hands-on-the-keys artists who bring this work to life. Nominees are selected by VES members via concurrent events in Los Angeles and within the eight Global VES Sections - New York, Bay Area, New Zealand, Sydney, United Kingdom, Montreal, Toronto and Vancouver. The 12th Annual VES Awards were held February 12 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles.
