Mozido Receives Best Prepaid Innovation Award at the PYMNTS.com Innovation Project 2014
Austin, Texas (PRWEB) March 24, 2014 -- Mozido Inc. received an award for the Best Prepaid Innovation during PYMNTS.com 2014 Innovation Project, the most prestigious annual conference focused on the reinvention of the payments industry. Mozido was recognized for their City ID/Prepaid MasterCard™ which supports financial inclusion for the underbanked by using the Mozido mobile wallet for financial services, and their City ID/Prepaid MasterCard™ as the funding source. The combination card is innovative because it helps unbanked members of the community, giving them an approved form of identification, access to local city services, and enables them to conduct financial transactions on their mobile phone that include paying bills, sending money within the US and internationally, and topping up their prepaid mobile accounts.
PYMNTS.com also inducted the former CEO and president of MasterCard™, Bob Selander, into the Payments Hall of Fame. Selander is a member of Mozido’s Board of Directors and commented during his acceptance that he still gets his payments innovation fix from his work with Mozido. Selander was the visionary who took the world’s second-largest payments network public during its 40th anniversary in 2006. It freed MasterCard to innovate as the digital-payments age took hold, and the stock market has duly rewarded the company with a cumulative 1900 percent return on the value of its shares since their debut.
The selection process for the Innovation Awards and Best Prepaid Innovation took place in January and February, where a panel of experts from across the payments industry reviewed more than 600 submissions and selected five finalists per category. Once the finalists were announced on February 20th, voting was opened up to the public and industry watchers to weigh in and vote for the innovation of their choice.
“We are humbled by the recognition we received from the distinguished panel of judges, and from the Mozido supporters who voted for the City ID/Prepaid MasterCard to enable us to take one of the top honors,” states David Luther, Chief Marketing Officer of Mozido. "Receiving this prestigious award from the PYMNTS.com Innovation Project further validates Mozido’s leadership in the mobile payments industry and demonstrates our commitment to championing financial freedom through the convenience of the mobile phone."
In addition to the Innovators Award, Mozido’s Chief Operating Officer, Mike Love, led a team of payment industry professionals to take home the top prize for the Innovation Project’s ThinkAThon™ brainstorming contest. Three teams competed to tackle some of the industry’s toughest questions. Love captained his team to come up with a creative solution to increase the speed and efficiency of multi-country, multi-currency and multi-channel payments. They called the winning solution Global Value Transfer (GVT) - a low cost, fully compliant, cross border value movement system. GVT facilitates real time transfers between any two people or businesses in the value store of their choice. (If your aunt wants a goat, you can send a goat).
