MultiCASE Uses NIHPO's FDA AERS, NLM ChemID Datasets with In-silico Software
(PRWEB) October 14, 2013 -- The US Food and Drug Administration ('FDA') regularly releases a list of adverse event reports for drugs and medications sold both in the US and overseas (Adverse Event Reporting System, 'AERS'). NIHPO approached MultiCASE with the theory that by evaluating the chemical compounds of those medications, users of in-silico software could estimate the potential adverse events from new compounds that are chemically-related to the compounds in the reported medications.
MultiCASE licensed the FDA AERS and NLM ChemID datasets from NIHPO. Delivered by NIHPO as files ready to be imported into the user's database system, and updated regularly. "We had tried in the past (unsuccessfully) to process the raw data from both FDA AERS and NLM ChemID on our own. We found it much easier and convenient to subscribe to NIHPO's service and just get the monthly updates instead of spending our time fixing data conversion issues," said Dr. Roustem D. Saiakhov, President of MultiCASE. "We're now in the process of integrating NIHPO's datasets into our data warehouse, supporting both a desktop app (CASE Ultra) as well as a web service (MCWeb). MultiCASE will use the NIHPO databases to improve both the existing modules and to create new ones, relevant to the drug safety and public health. We expect to boost the performance and reliability of our modules. Their release is expected by early 2014," concluded Dr. Saiakhov.
