MultiTech and Partners Create a Smart City LoRaWan Network in China
Mounds View, MN (PRWEB) August 09, 2016 -- Multi-Tech Systems, Inc. a leading global manufacturer of M2M and IoT devices, today announced the completion of a true smart city implementation within the city of Weinan, located in the Shaanxi Province of China. Utilizing MultiTech’s IoT solutions in conjunction with sensors and a LoRaWAN network server from The Things Network, China’s first pilot city has successfully introduced a revolutionary system to track and analyze critical data from sensors located throughout its 2.5 mile span.
A smart city is an urban development vision that integrates numerous information solutions to better manage a city’s assets. Within the city of Weinan, these assets include its burgeoning agricultural community. Monitoring and analyzing pivotal information regarding this community, including wind speed, temperature, barometric pressure and humidity can impact the success of its fragile agricultural system and ultimately influence the cities economic state.
Focusing on range and power efficiency, a low-power WAN (LPWAN) is a wireless, wide area network technology specialized for interconnecting devices requiring a low-bit rate, and often infrequent connection, very cost efficiently. LoRaWAN is fast being deployed internationally in the subGHz ISM-Bands, dramatically reducing the complexities and bureaucracy associated with traditional methods of connectivity. It serves as an excellent complement to cellular and satellite networks by connecting assets scattered over a wide area in often difficult to reach locations through a gateway (situated where cellular or satellite coverage exists), providing quick to deploy connectivity to an IoT platform. The unique technology, introduced by the LoRa® Alliance, allows public or private single-or multi-tenant networks to connect multiple applications in the same space – coexisting to enable new IoT, M2M, smart city, sensor-network, and industrial-automation applications.
“LoRaWAN technology is a critical component in realizing resource management within cities,” said Stefan Lindvall, CEO of MultiTech. “Weinan’s implemention of MultiTech’s IoT solutions is further reinforcement of the value and worldwide potential of these cutting-edge technologies.”
The industry’s most configurable, manageable, and scalable communications gateway for industrial IoT applications the MultiConnect Conduit provides access to critical data from Weinan’s remote sensors deployed on cell towers and throughout the HighTech District of Weinan. MultiConnect® mDot’s™, utilized by Phillisense in their mini weather station, are LoRaWAN™ certified and provide 2-way communication from assets in the field. All of the data is monitored with the The Things Network customized IoT DashBoard and TTN Network Server located in City of Weinan’s data center.
“With a small group of people it is possible to provide an entire city with data connectivity for things,” said Initiator of The Things Network Wienke Giezeman. “A remarkable community, Weinan should be proud to call itself one of the first functioning models of a smart city.”
