Mum’s stroke inspires launch of new emergency ID product range
Colchester, Essex (PRWEB UK) 30 June 2015 -- The inspiration for ICEtell came about through unfortunate circumstances when, in 2010, Trish Bink’s mother suffered a major stroke at the home they shared. Because Trish was present, she could not only summon the emergency services but also supply them with the relevant information that enabled her mother to receive appropriate treatment within the timescale that prevented irreversible damage. Known as the ‘golden hour’, the sixty minutes immediately following a stroke, are vital in getting medical treatment to survive and avoid long-term damage. As her mother recovered in hospital, Trish thought about how different the outcome would have been if her mother had been alone when she suffered the stroke, and what she could do to help others in a similar situation.
“Thinking of my own situation, my mum was unable to speak when the paramedics arrived, and wouldn’t have been able to give them any information verbally. It made me think of how many other people living alone, without English as a first language, or limited speech could be vulnerable,” explains Trish. “When I started researching, I could see that there were a number of In Case of Emergency (ICE) products on the market, ranging from jewellery to ID cards, but I was surprised to find that none of them were high visibility, and that can prove to be a vital factor in many scenarios,“ she says. “For emergency services attending an incident, being able to locate details of a patient’s identity, medical history and special needs quickly could prove to be a matter of life and death.”
Trish’s next challenge was to turn her findings into a viable business. After consulting several UK charities including the Stroke Association, she created a prototype and found a team of UK manufacturers who were not only prepared to deal with a start-up business but also to spend time working with her on improving her initial designs in high visibility material.
“Our range of ICEtell products is high quality and designed to ensure that first responders are quickly and easily aware of all your needs, vetoes and contacts, in the case of an emergency,” says Trish. "Because of their distinctive colour scheme, blue and yellow on the retro-reflective material, our products are the most visible on the market and can be seen in dim or dismal conditions, on land or at sea.”
ICEtell already has a trading partnership in place with the Stroke Association, where £1 goes to the charity for every ICEtell product sold direct. This offer will be extended to charities and not-for-profit organisations across the UK. Starting at just £4.75 including P&P a range of ICEtell high-visibility ID products and gift cards are available to buy online now.
