Mummenschanz Brings Unique Visual Theater and Comedy To South Miami-Dade
Miami, Florida (PRWEB) February 23, 2015 -- South Miami-Dade Cultural Arts Center and Culture Shock Miami will co-present the unique, Swiss-based, visual theatrical company Mummenschanz for three performances, on Saturday, February 28, 2015, at 3 p.m. and 8 p.m. and on Sunday, March 1, 2015, at 3 p.m. on the Main Stage of the South Miami-Dade Cultural Arts Center, as part of the company’s 40th Anniversary tour. The Saturday performance at 3 p.m. is a Sensory Friendly performance.

Full price tickets are $35 to $20 and $10 for Youth Tickets for 12 years old and under. These tickets are available online or through the SMDCAC box office by calling 786-573-5300. A limited number of $5 tickets are available to 13-22 year olds and one accompanying guest each, exclusively through Culture Shock Miami. Culture Shock Miami ticket sales for this performance end on Friday, February 27, 2015, at 11:59 p.m.
The Saturday matinee performance will offer accessible accommodations for individuals with Sensory Processing Disorders and Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD). The theater will provide an accepting and inclusive environment, modifications to sound and lighting, noise canceling headsets, a professionally-staffed quiet room with remote viewing of the main stage performance, and a special pre-show guide to preparing new audiences for a live performing arts experience.
In the wordless universe of Mummenschanz, the ordinary becomes extraordinary when common materials, everyday objects and colorful abstract shapes and forms like the famous "Clay Masks," "Slinky Man" and "Giant Hands" spring to life. By creating a playful and compelling experience through the inventive use of shadow, light, and creative manipulation of objects, Mummenschanz offers timeless insight on the human condition. The result transcends cultural barriers and sparks the imagination. The entire program of puppetry and visual antics is performed without music or sound. The show will feature classic audience favorites, as well as brilliant new creations seen for the first time.

“When we return to New York, we always feel like we are coming home,” said founder and performer Floriana Frassetto. “The 'stories' we tell are unique in that they have no sound or music and we hope that our show will awaken the little child in everyone.”
Formed in Paris in 1972, by founding members Andres Bossard, Floriana Frassetto and Bernie Schürch, Mummenschanz paved the way for nonverbal theater and multiple new genres. Since then, the group has established its legacy with tireless touring across five continents over four decades by the original artists (Frassetto is still a main cast member), as well as current featured players, Philipp Egli, Pietro Montandon and Raffaella Mattioli, and technical directors Jan Maria Lukas / Dino de Maio.
Seen by millions in more than 60 countries, Mummenschanz humorously communicates timeless truths and insights on the human condition using a purely nonverbal universal "language." The group creates a playful and uniquely memorable theater experience through an inventive use of shadow and light and creative manipulation of sculptural, expressive masks. Culture Shock Miami, celebrating its 10th anniversary, was inaugurated in 2005-2006, by the Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs, with a generous grant from The John S. & James L.
