My Million Dollar Mom to Premiere in Philadelphia
PHILADELPHIA (PRWEB) April 27, 2018 -- My Million Dollar Mom, a film shot in the Philadelphia and based on Ross Schriftman’s book by the same name about a mother who has Alzheimer’s, a form of dementia, and the son who cares for her, will premiere at the Ambler Theater, 108 E. Butler Avenue, Ambler, PA 19002 on Monday, May 14th at 7:15 p.m. There will be a question and answer session after the film with Schriftman, Kevin Hackenberg, the film’s director, and the cast. There will also be two premieres at the Central Bucks Senior Activity Center, 700 N. Shady Retreat Road, Doylestown, PA 18901. The first, on Tuesday Evening, May 22nd from 7 to 9 p.m., will be hosted by the Doylestown Dementia Friendly Community organization and will feature a screening and discussion. The second, to be held on Thursday, May 24th at 1 p.m. at the Central Bucks Senior Activity Center. At this premiere, the members of the Center will watch the film, including a scene that was filmed at the Center with members of the community.
My Million Dollar Mom is an endearing drama inspired by real events and stars Pete Postiglione and Susan Moses, two actors who have appeared in film and television shows such as Silver Linings Playbook and The West Wing. When an aging mom, played by Moses, is diagnosed with Alzheimer’s, her son, played by Postiglione, steps forward to care for her. At the same time, he is offered a chance to run for Congress. He must decide between his life-long dream and his mom’s wishes to remain in her home under his care.
My Million Dollar Mom demonstrates the profound impact Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia has on those who suffer from this devastating illness and their families. The film will take audiences into the lives of one wonderful mom and her son as they face this challenge with dignity, love and even joy. The life lesson of caring for one another through Tikkun Olam (the Hebrew expression for repairing the world) is the theme of the film.
Ross Schriftman, author, screenwriter and producer of My Million Dollar Mom, hopes that the film will raise awareness about Alzheimer’s as he and others commit to finding a cure. “The personality of a loved one living with dementia is foremost in our story,” said Schriftman. “My mom was still the same caring person she always was, although the confusion, memory loss and angry outbursts prevalent with Alzheimer’s were ever-present."
Schriftman plans to have the film available for community events with a discussion guide for audiences to help people better understand dementia and to encourage them to plan ahead. In addition, the production company is putting together a panel of advocates and educators to develop continuing education programs for medical, legal and financial organizations. “We want to contribute to enhancing professionals’ knowledge about issues related to Alzheimer’s,” Schriftman said. “Along with the film and book as part of a training package, we will prepare specific study guides for various disciplines.”
About My Million Dollar Mom
Based on the book of the same name by Ross Schriftman, My Million Dollar Mom is a film about a loving mother who is diagnosed with Alzheimer's and the devoted son who steps forward to care for her. The script for the film was selected as a semi-finalist in Story Pros' screenwriting contest in the drama category.
Schriftman’s production company is partnering with the Dementia Society of America in an effort to promote awareness and raise funds for research and family support services. After the film is produced, Schriftman plans to show it locally and hold discussions with audiences about the issues surrounding Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia. Schriftman’s ulimate goal is to release the film to a worldwide audience.
This film is directed by Kevin Hackenberg, who began his career working on the M. Night Shyamalan films The Sixth Sense and Unbreakable. He went on to establish the production company Get-Kinetic in 2003 in Philadelphia, where he and his staff create visual content for clients as varied as Temple University and NBC10 in Philadelphia.
