My Mother Prayed for Me: Mother’s Day Tribute Concert in Westchester May 9, 2014
Mount Vernon, NY (PRWEB) April 25, 2014 -- On May 9, 2014, The legendary Mighty Clouds of Joy and Lee Williams & The Spiritial QC's will be performing at the Macedonia Baptist Church in Mt. Vernon, New York.
"Some of my earliest memories as a child are waking up Sunday morning to the smell of bacon and eggs cooking in the kitchen and the sounds of gospel music from the stereo that could be heard all over the house", says Deacon Larry Woodard of Gospelize Productions, one of the promoters of the event. "One of my favorites was The Mighty Clouds of Joy, Live at Music Hall. That album yielded hit after hit and produced songs that can still be heard Sunday mornings in churches all over the country…There’s a Bright Side Somewhere, I’m glad About It and What a Friend. This music, gospel music, has carried me and countless others, encouraging us through the ups and downs of life and promising us that there is divine help and hope."
For many, that is why they will be present when Joe Ligon and The Mighty Clouds of Joy and Lee Williams and the Spiritual QC’s roll into Mount Vernon for My Mother Prayed For Me: A Mother’s Day Tribute Concert on Friday of Mother’s Day weekend.
The idea of mother’s praying is the stated reality of how so many in the faith-based community, growing up surrounded by dangers narrowly escaped and went on to become respectable, God-fearing adults. For these, Gospel music has been been a significant part of the sound track of their lives: The Mighty Clouds of Joy, Lee Williams & the Spiritual QC’s, The Swan Silvertones, The 5 Blind Boys, The Brooklyn Allstars, The Highway QC’s and the Dixie Hummingbirds (who give the Paul Simon song Loves Me Like A Rock its distinctive sound). It is music that encourages, inspires, sustains and empowers.
On May 9th, the doors will open at 6 PM and the concert will start promptly at 7 PM. Liz Black, WBLS/WLIB host of Sunday Praise with Liz Black and 2012 Stellar Award nominee for Radio Personality of the Year, will be the emcee.
