My Positive Perspective Broadcasts Episode With Vietnam Veteran Dr. Art Schmitt in Honor of Veteran’s Day
Charleston, SC (PRWEB) November 11, 2014 -- On November 11, 2014, My Positive Perspective host Jason Deierlein was joined by Vietnam Veteran Dr. Art Schmitt for an episode that addressed the changes PTSD has on our service men and women. At the start of the episode, Deierlein says to Schmitt, “You wrote a book called The Man I Didn’t Know. What was your reason for publishing this book and how has the book helped you personally?” Schmitt replies, “A couple years ago, I was doing a book signing for my first book, A War With No Name and was approached by a woman who asked why don’t I have a book about the families affected by war and its effects.” Schmitt continues, “She then asked me if I have PTSD and I responded maybe a little to which she replied you either have it or you don’t. I then realized I needed some counseling and have seen massive improvements in learning to come to grips with what happened previously.”
Deierlein then says, “After my car accident, writing a book about it helped me put the past behind me. Was it helpful for you as well?” Schmitt replies, “Yes, I served three tours of duty and writing the events down did help me separate things.” Deierlein then asks, “In 1969, Hurricane Camille hit and you flew several missions in response to that event. What was that like?” Schmitt responds, “After Hurricane Camille hit, homes and buildings were devastated and countless people were left stranded. I flew evacuation missions to help get people out of the flattened area. The smell of sewer and sense of desperation reminded me very much of my days in Vietnam.”
My Positive Perspective is a media outlet believing that improvement in our community will be best achieved by focusing on the good things happening in our world today. Having survived a near fatal car accident as a youth, a shift of perception forced one to have a mentality of always concentrating on the brighter sides of things. This was true, and in my book, Return From a Comatose Mind, this belief was put to the test. Appreciation for life was the biggest thing one took away from my brush with death, and it is because of that gives me such a huge desire to be helpful to many. My Positive Perspective is a way of overcoming challenges through positive thinking.
