MyHome Completes NYC Apartment Remodel with Pre-War Character
New York, NY (PRWEB) November 15, 2016 -- MyHome, one of NYC’s most trusted remodeling contractors, recently completed a total apartment renovation at 45 Christopher Street in Manhattan. Designer Ben Pitt, Project Manager Denise Ruhl and their team were tasked with updating a large 1-bedroom apartment while maintaining a charming pre-war feel.
This project posed a unique challenge. The homeowners wanted to expand the bathroom into a separate powder room and shower room to provide much need access to the bathroom from main living area. To make this happen, the team moved plumbing lines and installed a frosted glass door to separate the spaces. This design solution overcame the need to vent powder room separately as per code-compliance by creating what is technically one large bathroom.
The powder room, like the kitchen, utilized hardwood flooring and tall baseboards to match the rest of apartment. This gave the space a softer atmosphere. Side-by-side lights, a pedestal sink and an original flushometer-valve toilet finished the room nicely. The foyer and bedroom were reconfigured to create a new walk-in closet for the bedroom. In the foyer, the designer carefully matched the original molding to maintain the pre-war feel.
Designer Ben Pitt and Project Manager Denise Ruhl had to work closely to reconfigure the kitchen. Swapping the location of the oven and sink was not a sure thing until after demolition so alternate designs were planned in advance in case plumbing changes couldn’t be made. The homeowner’s traditional aesthetic was achieved with off-white raised panel cabinetry and a Frosty Carrina Caesarstone countertop that replicated the look of marble. Integrated panels on built-in fridge and dishwasher completed the look. A new dropped ceiling allowed for improved kitchen lighting and a pass-thru with decorative corners opened up the space into the living room.
The upgraded home now feels open, bright and traditionally appointed. The pre-war feel of the apartment remains with original flooring and mill work while also providing the homeowners a reconfigured kitchen, bathroom, and foyer designed for modern use.
