MyWay Mobile Storage of Pittsburgh has Joined with Operation Troop Appreciation to Help Welcome Home Veterans & their Families
Pittsburgh, PA (PRWEB) January 28, 2015 -- MyWay Mobile Storage is pleased to have joined with Operation Troop Appreciation (OTA) to support their “Welcome Home” program that provides services for returning veterans and their families.
“According to the National Coalition for Homeless Veterans, young male veterans ages 18 through 24 who served after 9/11 have an unemployment rate of 29% compared with less than 18% for non-veterans,” said Monica “Mo” Orluk, President and COO of Operation Troop Appreciation. “It’s a shame, but the 1.4 million veterans in poverty have the highest chance of experiencing homelessness of any group.”
The “Welcome Home” program fills a gap in support our veteran community receives today, by helping to prevent homelessness and provide a “hand-up” for veterans experiencing poverty today. Working with the VA Healthcare for Homeless Veterans program and the Veterans Leadership Program, “Welcome Home” provides support for veterans in need by helping to defray the costs associated with establishing a new home.
OTA extends the tradition of house-warming gifts by providing gifts that help veterans and their families establish residence. Moving into a new home can be stressful and costly. A critical component of veterans’ full recovery and transition into civilian life is that they be healthy, rested, and comfortable. To that end, OTA provides these families with a good bed and mattress, and essential household items to give them the best possible environment in which to live.
Providing those household items became much easier thanks to Kossman Development’s decision to renovate their Holiday Inn Express on Campbells Run and generously donate the furnishings being replaced to “Welcome Home.”
Ed Sickmund, MyWay Mobile Storage owner, said, “We have worked with OTA in the past and were happy to help by providing storage units to move the furniture and store it until it could be distributed to veterans.” Sickmund continued, “To distribute everything OTA contacted the Veterans Leadership Program of Western Pennsylvania, Veterans Place of Washington Boulevard, and the 28th Infantry 2nd Brigade-Washington Pennsylvania. They came to MyWay’s warehouse and identified what they needed, we packed storage units for them delivered the furnishings to them so they could distribute them to the veterans.”
