New York,N.Y. (PRWEB) July 16, 2014 -- NEW YORK (July 14, 2014) – In a major boost to its New York practice, New York State and New York City certified minority-owned law firm Gonzalez Saggio & Harlan LLP announced that Assemblymember Dan Quart, who represents New York’s 73rd Assembly District on the East Side of Manhattan, has joined the firm in its Litigation Practice Group. He will be resident in the firm’s New York City office, located at 292 Madison Avenue.
“Dan’s depth of experience within New York will provide keen insights into public affairs for our clients in the greater New York metro area,” said Steven Gerber, Co-Managing Partner and Partner in Charge of Gonzalez Saggio & Harlan’s New York City office. “We are pleased to welcome Dan to the firm. His legal talent and skills will strengthen the firm’s litigation, real estate and transactional practice, as well as expanding our depth on the East Coast.”
Dan has defended personal injury lawsuits and insurance coverage matters in New York’s State Courts for fifteen years. His civil litigation defense work includes defending ThysseKrup Elevator Americas, one of the largest elevator and escalator companies in the world. Dan also has an extensive background in New York State appellate practice, including briefing and arguing cases in the New York State Supreme Court, Appellate Division, First and Second Departments.
As an Assemblymember, Dan has a strong record of pro bono advocacy. Since 2002, he has served as a volunteer for the Housing Division of the Legal Aid Society, providing free representation for low-income tenants in eviction proceedings. In 2003, New York State Chief Judge Judith Kaye awarded Dan the Pro Bono Publico Award as one of New York City’s top pro bono attorneys. Dan also partnered with Columbia Law School’s Environmental Law Program to prosecute a case in New York State Court seeking to protect parklands and uphold the State’s “open space” law. Dan has also served as a volunteer attorney for the Disabled Veterans Consortium, representing a disabled veteran who was denied benefits.
Assemblymember Quart authored state budget language requiring the state environmental agency to improve New York City’s air quality. He passed legislation this year in the State Assembly that was the focus of a recent New York Times article detailing efforts to improve air quality. He is the sponsor of multiple pieces of legislation reforming New York City’s property tax system and consumer protection legislation streamlining the process of applying for insurance policies.
“I am extremely pleased to be joining Gonzalez Saggio & Harlan. The firm is a nationally recognized law firm, combining effective representation on behalf of its clients with a commitment to diversity in its hiring practices and leadership,” Quart said. “As a litigator in New York State courts for the last fifteen years and as a member of the New York State legislature for the last three years, the firm shares my long-standing commitment to public service, effective advocacy and representation.”
“We’re extremely fortunate to add Dan Quart to our firm. He brings superb tools and experience in his practice, with an admirable range across litigation matters throughout New York,” said Emery Harlan, Chairman of Gonzalez Saggio & Harlan.
