NAID to Follow Data Protection Testimony with Proposed Bill Language
Phoenix, AZ (PRWEB) November 12, 2013 -- The National Association for Information Destruction (NAID) has accepted an invitation to provide the Nebraska legislature with sample language for a proposed data destruction bill.
“Though 29 states currently have a law requiring the destruction of discarded personal information, they are not all created equal,” said NAID CEO Bob Johnson. “By giving NAID the opportunity to provide sample language, the state will ultimately benefit from the association’s experience and expertise with the regulations already in place.”
This invitation follows the testimony presented by NAID member Brian Gubbels of Omaha-based DataShield Corporation who originally secured the opportunity to testify. NAID’s brief, two-page testimony focuses on the role state laws play in filling the gap in current national data protection laws and makes the point that organizations require clear direction and the threat of meaningful enforcement to take such laws seriously. NAID’s proposed language will combine provisions from the most current and effective state requirements in U.S.
“Brian deserves all the credit for creating this opportunity,” added Johnson. “The association has the resources and know-how to support such initiatives, but we need more members like Brian to bring these opportunities to our attention.”
