NAPW Bethlehem, PA Local Chapter Got Expert Tips for Improving Their Social Media Skills at June Networking Event
Garden City, NY (PRWEB) July 25, 2013 -- Members and guests of the NAPW Bethlehem, PA Local Chapter gathered on June 13th for a professional networking event at Eastside Youth Community Center in Allentown, PA.
With her presentation, “Social Media: Creating, Building, Improving Your Online Presence and Experience,” Bethlehem Chapter President Cordie Lacey helped the group of professional women navigate how to get the most out of social media.
Attendees also discussed the Chapter’s new mission and its plans for giving back to the community.
“Our monthly Chapter meeting got started with a lively Meet & Greet session where members and guests had the opportunity to network and learn more about each other’s different business backgrounds,” said Bethlehem Chapter President Cordie Lacey.
The Bethlehem Chapter further refined its focus as a professional networking group, which comprises women from the Lehigh Valley area and beyond.
“Our focus is on community service and charitable activities while working to build strong professional networking opportunities for women,” said Bethlehem Chapter President Cordie Lacey.
President Lacey next delivered her presentation, “Social Media: Creating, Building, Improving Your Online Presence and Experience.”
The group of professional women discussed some of the social media tools used today, and the interests, pet peeves and questions people currently have. For example, why does the number of “Likes” matter in Facebook? How can I get started with a Blog? Is WordPress the only tool? How does having a blog help me? What’s the point of Twitter? A take-away for attendees was to think about the concept for what they would say or sell in their own blog.
The Chapter President took some time to introduce two summer interns, Da’Shay Brown (Dieruff High School and Caroline Lux (Muhlenberg College), who are both working with her at Lacefront Entertainment, LLC. Caroline is currently assigned to the Chapter’s “Buzz” team as a content creator for Facebook, Twitter and the new Blog. Da’Shay assists with meeting setup/breakdown and as a junior photographer for monthly meetings and other events.
Member Sandra Del Cueto was announced as the Business Professional of the Month. A Professor at Northampton Community College, Ms. Del Cueto received her M.A. in Spanish from Pennsylvania.
“Sandra was selected as Business Professional of the Month because of her efforts in raising visibility of our Local Chapter, generating traffic to our social media sites which resulted in inquiries from more than five woman since our last meeting!” said President Lacey.
Ms. Lacey went on to say that Ms. Del Cueto has hit the ground running, providing suggestions on future topics and outlining a written, detailed list of items for consideration. As of the June 3rd meeting, she was in Costa Rica with students, and has still been active through email in driving other women to napw.com, the Bethlehem Chapter Facebook Page, and informing them about monthly meetings
For her efforts, Ms. Del Cueto will be featured in all of the Chapter’s social media throughout the next month; in addition, a specially written blog on recent accomplishments and future projects she has worked on will be prepared and posted to our new blog. Intern, Caroline Lux will interview her and write the blog, which will be reviewed and approved by both Sandra Del Cueto and Cordie Lacey before being posted.
The President announced that the Bethlehem Local Chapter’s new blog is up and running and can be found at http://www.napwbethlehem.wordpress.com. There, all meeting minutes will be posted. Members wishing to write a blog on a topic of interest for professional women are welcome to do so. (Topic ideas and final content must be reviewed for compliance before they can be posted).
A discussion on the Chapter’s charitable endeavors took place. The group of professional women discussed ideas for helping at community events, which will further the Chapter’s visibility while giving back to those in the community. Some of the near-term activities suggested include volunteering at Musikfest or visiting My Sister’s Closet.
“The Bethlehem Chapter will launch a workshop series in the fall in partnership with community-based organizations and nonprofit entities,” said Chapter President Cordie Lacey.
“Workshop leaders and panelists must be Members of NAPW, however, workshops open to the public for attendance.”
The Chapter committed to being more active in volunteer opportunities in the Lehigh Valley and neighboring communities where there is not another NAPW Local Chapter. Members may visit the Bethlehem Chapter Page] to find out where they can participate as a presenter, panelist or blogger.
“Share your expertise, and get your name out there!” President Lacey told the crowd.
The Bethlehem Local Chapter will have its next meeting at My Sister’s Closet in Bethlehem, PA.
The theme will be “Shop & Drop” and members and guests may shop and/or donate new or gently used clothing (mint condition). There will be prizes (first place, $35; second place, $25) for attendees who bring the most guests. See the Bethlehem Chapter Page for details regarding this and other monthly meetings.
