Narada Michael Walden, Grammy Winning Philanthropist, Receives Jefferson Award
San Francisco, CA (PRWEB) February 05, 2016 -- Grammy award winning producer, drummer, performer, and philanthropist Narada Michael Walden has been recognized by the Jefferson Awards Foundation, the nation’s most prestigious and longest-standing organization dedicated to powering and celebrating public service. Founded in 1972, the Jefferson Awards National Ceremonies has identified and honored over 60,000 local “Unsung Heroes” alongside hundreds of prominent national figures.
While discussing Narada’s new album, Evolution, on Recovery Station with Nick Moorhatch, they began to uncover Narada’s charitable efforts, it was then that Moorhatch decided to throw Narada’s hat in the ring to receive the prestigious award, having been involved with the organization himself for quite some time.
Narada works with Bay Area youth, promoting music education through the Narada Michael Walden Foundation (NMWF), a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit, endows scholarships for aspiring musicians, provides access to recording facilities, coaching and production support, and delivers its services through a network of fellow non-profit organizations with proven records of success in youth education and community empowerment.
"It's a great honor for me to receive the Jefferson Award, which was presented to me by Sam Beard, the man who co-founded the Jefferson Awards with the great Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis,” said Narada.
Narada continues to perform, write, and record new music. His most recent album, Evolution, is continuing to evolve. Released on Narada’s own imprint, Tarpan Records, the album represents a change of direction for Narada, one that brings him back to his roots in Dance and Club Music, Funk and Soul. The album features mostly original material and two covers; Freedom by Richie Havens and Long and Winding Road by John Lennon and Paul McCartney.
Narada said, “I am excited about the future; loving the music on my New Album EVOLUTION and looking forward to returning to the Iridium, in New York, with my band in May.”
Narada Michael Walden will return to The Iridium in NYC after his sold-out performance on November 13 with dates below.
