Narconon Arrowhead Issues Warning on Drug Abuse Dangers During the Holidays

Thanksgiving especially is known to be a high-risk time for over-indulgence in alcohol, and Thanksgiving, just passed, has been named as the single highest alcohol-consumption day of the year.
And as the holiday season unfolds into Christmas and New Year’s, alcohol is traditionally served at family get-togethers, holiday parties, and at all varieties of social gatherings particular to the end-of-year holiday season.
For those who are prone to over-indulgence in alcohol consumption, or who are alcohol-addicted, the socially-accepted abundance of alcoholic beverages during the season presents a high-risk situation, both to self and others.
In our current culture, illicit recreational drugs have become standard party fare in some age groups, and the risk of life-threatening consequences increases with over-use and in combination with holiday drinking.
The risk of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, and thus endangering the well-being and safety of passengers and fellow human beings on the road, presents an ever-present risk and one with very real and potentially tragic consequences.
With these holiday-specific dangers in mind, the executives and staff of Narconon Arrowhead are seeking to raise awareness by warning of drug abuse dangers during the holidays.
Drug and Alcohol Prevention
Narconon Arrowhead has long known that drug prevention education is a key factor is helping recovered addicts maintain their sobriety, while at the same time preventing others from falling into the trap of substance abuse.
By raising awareness as to the true risks and dangers of using and abusing chemical substances over the holidays, Narconon Arrowhead is taking effective action to help those already struggling with substance abuse get through the holidays, and into effective rehab treatment.
Gary W. Smith, Executive Director of the Oklahoma-based residential rehab center, which delivers the drug-free Narconon program, authored the Life Cycle and Mechanics of Addiction booklet which is available for download as a public service. It is a new and insightful look into the cause of addiction, and its resolution.
The center also continues to deliver its holistic, drug-free approach to rehabilitation throughout the holiday season, and its services remain available to those who are already struggling with addiction and find themselves overwhelmed by the added stress of the holiday season.
Celebrating the Holidays
Throughout the holiday season, Narconon Arrowhead continues its long tradition of holiday participation while continuing to deliver its successful, outcome based rehab results.
The annual McAlester Christmas Parade and the Eufaula Holiday Parade include the Narconon Arrowhead drug-free float, delivering its effective drug-free message to parade attendees all along the route.
The beginning of the month traditionally marks the raising of the magnificent Christmas tree in the high-ceiling lobby of the main lodge overlooking Lake Eufaula. This same time marks the annual party to “deck the halls” in festive Christmas decorations.
Mid-month marks the holiday talent show, with performances by both staff and students who are currently on the Narconon rehab program at the center.
The local community benefits with the center’s annual food pantry drive, collecting donations of food, supplies, clothing and money to be distributed to local families in need.
Throughout the season, Narconon Arrowhead shares its holiday message of hope, and stands ready to help addicts and alcoholics reclaim their lives from addiction.
