Contaminated Alcohol – Spotting & Stopping
Contaminated alcohol is alcohol that has some type of additive or ingredient in it such as bacteria that can cause serious illness or death. A Who Inc. Global Status Report from 2011 suggest that contaminated alcohol is a common and unrecorded health problem both in the Unites States and particularly abroad.
Research from the Who Inc. report suggests that methanol, a highly toxic chemical found in drain cleaner, paint stripper and antifreeze, is also a common alcohol contaminant.
Handling Alcoholism
As with alcohol use, alcohol contamination can affect a user more seriously, the more they drink. Narconon Arrowhead warns individuals to look for signs of alcohol contamination. Symptoms include severe and chronic headaches, difficulty breathing, diarrhea, eye problems and blindness, kidney failure, coma and death. The onset of alcohol contamination symptoms begins 40 minutes to 72 hours after drinking.
Along with contamination other alcohol problems can include binge drinking or acute or chronic alcoholism. Both are treatable with effective rehabilitation like that offered through the Narconon program in Oklahoma.
