Narconon International Supports National Prevention Week with New Resource for Community Groups
(PRWEB) May 20, 2014 -- This year from May 18 through 24, it's National Prevention Week, set aside by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration to bring attention to the prevention of drug abuse. To support the thousands of anti-drug community and youth groups around the country, Narconon International has built a new Community Resource portal that brings together vital drug prevention resources from thousands of pages of anti-addiction information.
"We were delighted to collect these materials all in one place to support these many individuals who work with youth or other at-risk individuals to prevent drug abuse," said Clark Carr, president of Narconon International. "We know that it will take all of us working together to reverse the trends toward increased drug abuse that we are seeing in our country."
On the new Community Resource page, coalitions and groups can find downloadable articles, videos and web pages featuring the following types of drug prevention information:
• The health risks of drugs – articles or downloadable booklets are available for each of all the major types of drugs
• Guides to the effects of different drugs
• Signs and symptoms of abuse of many different drugs
• A guide to the dangers of polydrug (multiple drugs) abuse
• Special educational booklets for parents on the most important facts about marijuana use or prescription drug abuse
• Advice to families who are trying to deal with an addicted loved one
In addition to the many booklets and articles available on the Narconon International website, seventeen of the most relevant educational videos that parents might need are linked to this page. These videos can be watched free of charge on the Narconon website, http://www.narconon.org. Video topics include these and many more:
• What is a drug?
• What are the effects of drugs on the mind? On the nervous system?
• Why do people take drugs?
• Is alcohol a drug?
• How long do drugs stay in your system?
"In addition to all these free resources, Narconon International also has drug prevention materials available for purchase, and these have also been listed on this resource page," said Carr. The purchasable materials include booklets, DVDs and paperback books to support parents in their efforts to raise drug-free children.
