Narconon Tijuana Opens Women’s Program
(PRWEB) April 18, 2014 -- Since 2012, the Tijuana drug rehabilitation center has been delivering the eight-step life skills Narconon program in residential facilities operated in liaison with the Archdiocese of Tijuana.
At the opening, the center’s executive director Jorge Loaiza, said, “Narconon Tijuana is different. It’s a ‘Catholic’ NN. In preparation for this, we have had two Sisters from the Samaritan Order in training since the beginning of this year.”
Padre Jaime Lares, president of the center, had invited the nuns to come and study in the area of addiction, he said. One of them, sister Angelica, commented, “These Narconon staff training courses have given us the ability to learn about and better understand addicted persons. It is really helping us to serve our community.”
Her colleague, Sister Veronica, added, “As religious Samaritans of Jesus and Mary of Guadalupe, we pray for the inner salvation of persons. But with these new Narconon tools, we are learning to help women not just in the spiritual area, but physically as well.”
“The Sisters are in charge, independently of Narconon,” said Loaiza, “of students’ spiritual responsibilities. The individual that's coming off drugs is missing the spiritual part of his life. Some of our students meet with the nuns in our facility’s prayer space, which has benefited them very much. It is easier to work with them. They seem more at ease.”
The celebratory event at Narconon Tijuana to inaugurate the women’s delivery included festivities such as a staff-student basketball tournament the night before (including the sisters) and a daytime race around the neighborhood (with paint powder and water thrown by bystanders), all in the spirit of fun.
Awards were given away. And visiting adults and children got a drug education lecture from a youngster. Narconon Tijuana has been doing drug education lectures in area schools on a regular basis.
There are four other drug rehabs in Tijuana that deliver to women, but the need for help is increasing along with the overall drug addiction problem in the city. The center staff are very proud that they can now extend help to the other gender. “The role of women in society is very sensitive,” said Padre Lares to the gathering of friends. “When a woman injures herself in drug addiction, the harm is much greater as children are in her care. So when we help women recover, we’re working for the future.”
