National Access Cannabis Offers a Safe and Legal Solution to Canada's Unregulated Dispensary Crisis
Ottawa, ON (PRWEB) April 28, 2015 -- As Vancouver council works to control the expansion of unregulated dispensaries, National Access Cannabis (NAC) is educating Canadians about the dangers of buying from an unregulated source.
Unlike the Health Canada Licensed Producer (LP) system which requires rigorous quality control protocols to avoid harmful contaminants, mold and pathogens; the source of dispensary marijuana is not regulated or documented.
"For all intents and purposes buying from a source outside of Health Canada's Licensed Producer system is the equivalent of buying off the street," says Gulwant Bajwa CEO of NAC. "Canadians would never buy their prescription drugs from an unlicensed shop for fear of the medications not being safe. These same standards need to apply to the purchase of medicinal marijuana and we need to give Canadians a better option."
There are also real concerns about potentially dangerous interactions with existing prescription medications when taking marijuana without health-professional guidance. NAC has created a national model that offers a solution.
With its first care centre open in Victoria and new centres opening nationwide in the coming months, NAC is providing a responsible, safe, informed and legal way to access high quality medical cannabis from Health Canada regulated Licensed Producers.
NAC first provides education on how Health Canada's medical marijuana system can be accessed effectively. Members are connected with a physician for a medical assessment and NAC assists with selecting a Licensed Producer and submitting the required Health Canada medical documents. Members also receive pharmacist consultations and ongoing guidance on responsible use, while NAC pharmacy software monitors safe usage.
In addition, NAC members receive the National Access Cannabis Card, a secure medical marijuana card developed in consultation with law enforcement to assure police that patients are authorized to use medical marijuana.
NAC believes in the efficacy of marijuana as a medicine, but only when taken with health-professional guidance, and only when the product is tested for quality and safety with rigorous Heath Canada protocols.
"We want to educate Canadians about the potentially harmful effects of taking marijuana without health-professional guidance and without knowing where it originated and in what conditions it was grown," added Bajwa. "NAC is the ideal model to help Canadians understand how to get safe, informed, responsible and legal access to the benefits of medical marijuana."
