National Association of Professional Women Announces Dana Barton, LMSW, ACSW, Psychotherapist, a 2014-2015 Professional Woman of the Year

Ms. Barton is recognized with this prestigious distinction for leadership in social work. Dana Barton has been providing psychotherapeutic services to individuals, couples, families and groups in private practice for 25 years. She was trained through the University of Michigan School of Social Work and completed her professional internship at the University of Michigan's Center for the Child and the Family. Typically, she provides individual therapy with clients aged 18 years and older. She has a special interest in working with young adults who are struggling to define themselves, their values and their educational and career goals while navigating the pressures of daily life and sometimes difficult relationships.
Ms. Barton’s expertise is extensive. She successfully works with clients who struggle with such issues as depression, anxiety, relationship difficulties, family problems, grief and loss, work / career concerns, gender identity and sexual orientation issues, physical, emotional and sexual trauma, stress management and life transitions.
“I would describe my treatment style as interactive and solution focused,” says Ms. Barton whose therapeutic approach is to provide support and practical feedback to assist clients in effectively addressing personal life challenges. Her theoretical orientation is predominately informed by family systems and psychodynamic theories. She offers a highly personalized approach to treatment specifically tailored to meet the needs of each client. With compassion and understanding, she works with individuals to identify and build on their strengths and achieve the personal growth they are committed to accomplishing. Recently, Ms. Barton completed a post Master degree certificate in Sexual Health and Sex Therapy from the University of Michigan.
