National Association of Professional Women Announces Dr. Dee Everhart, President / Co-Owner of Everhart Primary Health Care, a 2014 Professional Woman of the Year
Garden City, NY (PRWEB) November 18, 2014 -- NAPW honors Dee Everhart, FNP-BC, DNP, as a 2014 Professional Woman of the Year. Dr. Everhart is recognized with this prestigious distinction for leadership in healthcare. As the largest, most-recognized networking organization of professional women in the country, spanning virtually every industry and profession, the National Association of Professional Women is a vibrant networking community with over 600,000 members and nearly 300 Local Chapters.
“When I was 5 or 6, my aunt, who was a nurse, gave me a cap and nurse’s uniform,” recalls Dr. Everhart. “I told her that I wanted to be a nurse doctor.” A few years ago, Dr. Everhart, who has been a nurse for 55 years, did indeed become a “nurse doctor” when she received her Doctorate in Nursing (DNP) from Old Dominion University.
As a nurse, Dr. Everhart worked alongside her husband, a “country doctor” for 40 years. When he retired, she chose to continue to work, honing her nursing skills in hospitals. Eventually, she and her daughter, also a DNP, established Everhart Primary Health Care, a small healthcare facility that provides much-needed services to their small town of Cana, Virginia. “My daughter and I got our Doctorates at the same time. My husband said it was the proudest day of his life,” says Dr. Everhart.
The mission of Dr. Everhart, who is often a keynote speaker at local events, and her daughter, is to provide community residents “quality care at a price you can afford.” They accept no outside insurance, all visits are only $50 and bartering is not unusual. Although the clinic is small, they are able to offer clients a wide range of services including management of stable chronic illness, treatment of acute minor illnesses, wellness examinations, health education and disease prevention. “We are the only primary healthcare clinic within a 25-mile radius. We have nursing students and medical students who work with us and hope to become affiliated with a larger hospital. It’s challenging but we are trying to improve the health of Americans,” she says.
NAPW’s mission is to provide an exclusive networking forum to successful women where they can aspire, connect and achieve. Through innovative resources, unique tools and progressive benefits, professional women interact, exchange ideas, advance their knowledge and empower each other.
