Garden City, NY (PRWEB) January 27, 2015 -- NAPW honors Julie A. Sheil, D.V.M., C.V.A., of Cleveland Veterinary Acupuncture, a 2015 Professional Woman of the Year. Dr. Sheil is recognized with this prestigious distinction for leadership in veterinary acupuncture. As the largest, most-recognized networking organization of professional women in the country, spanning virtually every industry and profession, the National Association of Professional Women is a powerfully vibrant networking community with over 600,000 members and over 200 Local Chapters.
As an undergraduate, Dr. Sheil considered different career options in medicine but remained undecided until her Sophomore year. After attending a college-sponsored tour of the Kansas State University College of Veterinary Medicine, Dr. Sheil knew exactly the career path she was going to follow. “The idea that I could combine my interest in medicine and my love of animals into a career was very exciting,” said Dr. Sheil, who would eventually realize her dream of becoming a successful veterinarian.
Dr. Sheil has derived great satisfaction from helping countless patients, but over the years, became frustrated with the limitations of Western veterinary medicine. "Even though I was practicing the best medicine I could, I wanted to be able to help those who needed more." Eventually, she decided to expand her training to include holistic medicine techniques.
Having personally experienced the benefits of alternative therapies for her own health, Dr. Sheil reasoned that animals should be able to as well. Her reasoning proved correct. She has witnessed the increased vitality and well-being of her patients by practicing integrative medicine, which combines the best of allopathic and holistic treatment modalities. A holistic approach focuses on treating the patient instead of treating the disease. Veterinary acupuncture, Reiki, medicinal herbs and other energy-based therapies encourage healing by correcting energy imbalances in the body. Dr. Sheil’s successful practice is a testament to the efficacy of the notion that conventional and holistic therapies can complement each other.
