National Association of Professional Women Announces Kay Lamb Shannon, Professional Painter, Strokes of Perfection, a 2014 Professional Woman of the Year
Garden City, NY (PRWEB) September 23, 2014 -- NAPW honors Kay Lamb Shannon as a 2014 Professional Woman of the Year. Ms. Shannon is recognized with this prestigious distinction for leadership in the arts. As the largest, most-recognized networking organization of professional women in the country, spanning virtually every industry and profession, the National Association of Professional Women is a powerfully vibrant networking community with over 600,000 members and nearly 300 Local Chapters.
“I was a homemaker; I sewed and I painted. After 15 years of marriage, my husband left me. I had to make a living so I started to paint again,” says Ms. Shannon. “I went to art shows and in Dallas, a man purchased two to three of my paintings.”
Ms. Shannon’s talent was quickly realized by individuals and corporations and she was indeed able to make a living and support her family through her art. Soon after that first sale, she received a call from Home Interiors, a large wholesale print company. Very interested in her work, the company went on to print her work for many years. Other similar companies such as Scafa Tornabene in New York and Bentley House in California, distributes Ms. Shannon’s prints nationally. She also now creates paintings that are used for jigsaw puzzles for two companies: Bits and Pieces and Sunout.
Working in oils, Ms. Shannon’s paintings beautifully capture the “detailed realism” of wildlife and nostalgia settings, homesteads and Victorian scenes. She has been painting for more than 50 years and has no intention of retiring nor curtailing her other activities. “I’m 74 years old but I continue to paint puzzles and do commission work. I have an active social life,” says Ms. Shannon, who volunteers at her church and enjoys spending time with family and friends. “God has opened one door after the other for me.”
