Garden City, NY (PRWEB) March 11, 2014 -- NAPW honors Loretta Lynn Gaskamp as a 2014 Professional Woman of the Year for leadership in mental health services with this prestigious distinction. As the largest, most-recognized organization of women in the country, spanning virtually every industry and profession, the National Association of Professional Women is a vibrant networking community with over 600,000 members and nearly 400 Local Chapters.
“My primary goal in my current job is to educate the public on how special the individuals we serve here at the Brenham State Supported Living Center (BSSLC) are,” says Ms. Gaskamp. Home to almost 300 people, BSSLC is a 200-acre facility providing campus-based services and care to those with intellectual and developmental disabilities. With this group near and dear to her heart, Ms. Gaskamp hopes her current position within the facility will open the doors to an active career in mental healthcare administration and spark an increase in community involvement on and off the campus.
As assistant director of food service, Ms. Gaskamp provides training and oversight of all food service for the entire campus. She uses her strategic communication skills to place orders with outside vendors for food and supplies, and hires and trains new staff to assist the director in building a dedicated team of food service professionals. Most importantly, Ms. Gaskamp works in tandem with the center’s dietitian to ensure that the individuals who live at BSSLC have only the best, including proper diet texture and caloric intake.
Ms. Gaskamp is eager to grow her expertise within the mental healthcare system and to this end, she is currently pursuing her Master of Science in Healthcare Administration. “I am currently where I need to be right now," she says. "Hopefully I can inspire people to realize that it is never too late to go back to school and strive for a better job.”
