National Association of Professional Women Announces Margo Thomas, Lead Operations Officer/Advisor, World Bank Group/MET Community, a 2015 Professional Woman of the Year
Garden City, NY (PRWEB) April 28, 2015 -- NAPW honors Dr. Margo Thomas as a 2015 Professional Woman of the Year. Dr. Thomas is recognized with this prestigious distinction for leadership in business. As the largest, most-recognized networking organization of professional women in the country, spanning virtually every industry and profession, the National Association of Professional Women is a powerfully vibrant networking community with nearly 700,000 members and over 200 Local Chapters.
With 20 years of experience in international development within the World Bank Group, Dr. Thomas' areas of focus include women's economic empowerment, private sector development and public policy. She has a deep understanding of post conflict and transition economies.
Dr. Thomas began her career as a Senior Investment Policy Officer at FIAS Finance Corporation from 1993 to 2001 until her promotion as Regional Program Manager - Eastern and Southern Africa, FIAS. During her tenure, she was influential in developing and securing funding for multi-year investment climate advisory projects in Botswana, Ghana, Kenya, Lesotho, Sierra Leone, Uganda and Zambia.
In 2005, Dr. Thomas was given the title of Regional Manager, Business Enabling Environment at FIAS. She joined the World Bank Group taking on the role of Fellow, Finance and Private Sector Development Vice President in addition to her position as Lead Operations Officer, Trade and Competitiveness Practice with FIAS. Dr. Thomas was also the Public Policy Advisor for the London School of Economics and Political Science for five years. Currently, she is also an Advisor for the MET Community in Washington, DC.
Dr. Thomas holds a Ph.D. in Public Policy and Private Sector Development from the University of Manchester. Her most recent publications include a collaboration with the London School of Economics and Political Sciences on an edited volume on public policy making in the Western Balkans.
