National Association of Professional Women Inducts Cynthia Henry, Author, Into its VIP Professional Woman of the Year Circle
Garden City, NY (PRWEB) June 20, 2017 -- The National Association of Professional Women (NAPW) honors Cynthia Henry as a 2017-2018 inductee into its VIP Woman of the Year Circle. She is recognized with this prestigious distinction for leadership in entrepreneurship. NAPW is the nation’s leading networking organization exclusively for professional women, boasting more than 850,000 members, a thriving eChapter and over 200 operating Local Chapters.
“I’m pleased to welcome Cynthia into this exceptional group of professional women,” said NAPW President Star Jones. “Her knowledge and experience in her industry are valuable assets to her company and community.”
A recently retired English teacher, Cynthia Henry has always loved to write. Through the years, she has enjoyed sharing her passion for the written word with her high school students as well as with the children she teaches at a Sunday School. And it is her students who have now inspired her to write her first book, "The Leah Factor: Recognizing True Beauty and Worth," a story that focuses on the impact of how much emphasis society places on physical beauty.
“As a high school teacher, I often witnessed physical appearance-based bullying,” Ms. Henry explained. “Young women in particular were either bullied or suffered low self-esteem because of how they looked.” As a long-time Sunday School teacher, Ms. Henry was familiar with the biblical matriarch Leah who was ostracized by society because of her physical appearance. “It soon became clear that the Lord was leading me to write a book about Leah’s story to encourage others who are marginalized by our 'looks-oriented' society,” she said.
Now writing full time, Ms. Henry said it has its challenges, but she remains disciplined, even if it means writing in the middle of the night when an idea suddenly comes to her. “I find that if I don’t get up and memorialize the thought when it comes, I will forget it later!” she said.
Rewarded by the positive feedback her book has generated from readers as far away as Singapore, Ms. Henry plans to continue to write books as well as plays. “Knowing that the book has been helpful to others makes all the sacrifice and effort worth it,” she said.
