National Association of Professional Women Inducts Stephanie S. Glazar, Adjunct Instructor at Point Park University, Into its VIP Professional Woman of the Year Circle
Garden City, NY (PRWEB) October 11, 2017 -- The National Association of Professional Women (NAPW) honors Stephanie Glazar as a 2017-2018 inductee into its VIP Woman of the Year Circle. She is recognized with this prestigious distinction for leadership in education. NAPW is the nation’s leading networking organization exclusively for professional women, boasting more than 850,000 members, a thriving eChapter and over 200 operating Local Chapters.
“I’m pleased to welcome Stephanie into this exceptional group of professional women,” said NAPW President Star Jones. “Her knowledge and experience in her industry are valuable assets to her company and community.”
An Electrical Engineer, Stephanie Glazar was in between jobs when she landed a job teaching, a career she was encouraged to pursue by her sister. “I found a job teaching electronics full time,” she recalled. “While there, I had an epiphany and found that I loved teaching.”
For the past 12 years, Ms. Glazar has been an Adjunct Instructor in the Natural Science & Engineering Technology Department at Point Park University in Pittsburgh. She teaches physical science to non-science majors and courses promoting sustainability. Ms. Glazar is passionate about teaching and mentoring her students and uses the skills she has honed in leadership, student engagement, student-led classes and group collaboration in her classroom.
“I am skilled at encouraging and empowering others and can lead or work well within a team,” she said. “I want students to realize they can have a lifelong passion for something we’ve learned in our class about science and that fulfilling their own dreams in their lives after school is conceivable. Students often do not realize just how powerful they are. My job is to empower them, ensuring their success in my course, and my teaching strategies reflect that.”
Now pursuing a Doctorate in Education, Ms. Glazar holds a number of degrees, including a Master’s in Environmental Science, a Bachelor’s in Electrical Engineering and an Associate’s in Electronics. She said her husband’s support has been instrumental during her educational pursuits and is also grateful for the mentoring she receives from the Director of the Ed.D. program. “Dr. Eric Stennett motivates us to be the leaders we were meant to be, with future-focused, heartfelt influence,” she said. “He often says ‘Who you are is how you lead’ because you cannot lead in ways that conflict with who you are. Your traits shape how you lead.”
Although her time is dominated with teaching and working on her dissertation, Ms. Glazar is motivated to ‘power on,’ as her husband encourages her to do, and she is continually inspired by her students. “The most rewarding part about teaching science is when we are covering some topic and my students ‘get it’ and I can see it in their eyes,” she said. Once she obtains her Doctorate, Ms. Glazar looks forward to teaching at a higher education institute full time.
