National Association of Professional Women Inducts Tennille Decoste, Assistant Director of HR of the City of Miramar, Into its VIP Professional Woman of the Year Circle
Garden City, NY (PRWEB) August 22, 2017 -- The National Association of Professional Women (NAPW) honors Tennille Decoste as a 2017-2018 inductee into its VIP Woman of the Year Circle. She is recognized with this prestigious distinction for leadership in entrepreneurship. Tennille Decoste started her career working in local government when she joined Miami Dade County as a Bus Maintenance Control Clerk in 2004. “I worked my way up the career ladder while working with the County,” said Ms. Decoste. “I worked in various departments such as Transit, Solid Waste, Corrections, Clerk of Courts and Central Human Resources. I had the best mentor in Transit when I worked in the Office of Civil Rights Division.”
Ms. Decoste has been in her current position, Assistant Director of Human Resources at the City of Miramar for three months. In her role, she is responsible for the employee benefits of 1200 employees as well as overseeing HR policies, collective bargaining agreements, recruitment, diversity and inclusion program, compensation, morale, and employee and labor relations. She is also the liaison between the agency and the community. Prior to the City of Miramar Ms. Decoste was the Human Resources Director with the City of Delray Beach. The City has 917 employees.
“My skills range from being a people person to a detailed-oriented person,” said Ms. Decoste. “I have used my skills to increase morale, save our City one million dollars in benefits and our employees $81,000 in benefits, conduct a salary survey that led to employees’ salaries being increased, and brought trust back to the Human Resources Department within our City.”
Having to make decisions that are not always popular with employees but necessary for the City can be challenging, but Ms. Decoste finds her job very rewarding. “I have a passion for Human Resources when I can help an employee with benefits,” she said. “It makes my day.” Ms. Decoste hopes to one day take on the role of Director or Vice President of Human Resources. “Or maybe one day becoming an Assistant City Manager,” she added.
