National Association of Professional Women Inducts Tina L. Brown, Director of Social Services at Keswick Multicare Center, Into VIP Professional Woman of the Year Circle
Garden City, NY (PRWEB) August 29, 2017 -- The National Association of Professional Women (NAPW) honors Tina L. Brown as a 2017-2018 inductee into its VIP Woman of the Year Circle. She is recognized with this prestigious distinction for leadership in healthcare. NAPW is the nation’s leading networking organization exclusively for professional women, boasting more than 850,000 members, a thriving eChapter and over 200 operating Local Chapters.
“I’m pleased to welcome Tina into this exceptional group of professional women,” said NAPW President Star Jones. “Her knowledge and experience in her industry are valuable assets to her company and community.”
A healthcare professional, Tina Brown originally worked in the field of substance abuse but realized she needed a change. “I decided I wanted to change gears and try working with a different population,” she said. “I had previously interviewed with a nursing facility but decided that particular position was not for me. A few months later, I received a call from the owners of the facility asking if I would be interested in being the Director of their Social Services Department. Fourteen years later I am still in the field and love working with seniors.”
Ms. Brown, who has a Master’s degree in Social Work from the University of Maryland, has been the Director of Social Services at Keswick Multicare Center for the past five years. Her responsibilities include overseeing the day-to-day operations of her department as well as providing direct care to residents. From completing comprehensive psychosocial assessments to providing individual and family counseling to coordinating the smooth transition of patients, Ms. Brown ensures all patients receive the care and attention they need.
“As a Clinical Social Worker, I take an active role in behavior modification, participating with our Psychiatric Service to assist with recommendations for medication management. I also complete competency evaluations for the courts,” she added. “I have also had residents committed to Psychiatric Units if their behaviors are endangering the safety and welfare of other residents or themselves.”
Although managing a department that is often overworked and understaffed, Ms. Brown is rewarded when she sees the positive effect she has on patients and their families as she helps them navigate through significant life changes. “I also enjoy speaking in the community about advance directives and elder abuse,” added Ms. Brown. “My future goals are to become a Nursing Home Administrator and go back to school for my Ph.D.”
