SAN DIEGO (PRWEB) January 31, 2014 -- The National Conflict Resolution Center (NCRC) celebrates its 26th annual Peacemaker Awards on Saturday, March 1, 2014. The inspiring event recognizes individuals and organizations for their creative and effective collaborations and solutions to crises and conflict.
The 2014 National Peacemaker Award recipient is Congressman John Lewis; the Local Peacemaker Honoree is A Reason to Survive (ARTS).
Congressman John Lewis is an American icon – a politician committed to justice and nonviolence and one of the key figures of the American Civil Rights Movement. Lewis has dedicated his life to protecting human rights and securing civil liberties, which has taken him from an Alabama sharecropper's farm to the halls of Congress, from a segregated schoolroom to the 1963 March on Washington and from receiving beatings from state troopers to receiving the Presidential Medal of Freedom. His dedication to the highest ethical standards and moral principles has won him the admiration of many of his colleagues on both sides of the aisle in the United States Congress.
National City-based A Reason to Survive is a nationally recognized organization that believes in the power of the arts and creativity to literally transform lives – especially those of kids. Depicted in a 2013 Academy Award winning documentary and recently featured on the TODAY show, ARTS uses all forms of art as a vehicle to create positive, long-lasting change and transformation in children and youth facing major life challenges, giving them A Reason to Survive.
Sponsors of the 2014 Peacemaker Awards include SDG&E and Procopio, Cory, Hargreaves & Savitch.
The Peacemaker Awards dinner – held on a Saturday for the first time – is open to the public and will take place at the Hilton La Jolla Torrey Pines. Tickets are $200 per person or $2,500 for a table of 10 and can be purchased at ncrconline.com or by calling 619-238-2400 x221.
