National Cybersecurity Institute Launches "Initiative for Women in Cybersecurity"
Washington, DC (PRWEB) April 09, 2015 -- The National Cybersecurity Institute (NCI) announces the launch of its Initiative for Women in Cybersecurity (IWICS). The goal of IWICS is to offer support and solutions to women in the cybersecurity field, including skills training and best practices for helping understand and influence perceptions on the potential of women in STEM fields.
Starting this spring, NCI will launch a series of webinars, podcasts, and contributed articles exploring a variety of empowerment and leadership issues for women navigating the field of cybersecurity. The monthly podcast series, Women in Cybersecurity Leadership, will feature interviews with senior executive women within various areas of critical infrastructure in the cybersecurity field.
IWICS will be led by Dr. Jane LeClair, COO, NCI, a lifelong advocate for increasing and retaining more women in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) fields.
“With the scarcity of talent in the market, the cyber security field offers women a tremendous opportunity to become agents for positive change in society and role models for both their peers in the field and aspiring young women thinking about their future career options,” said Dr. LeClair.
Dr. LeClair will be joined on the IWICS leadership team by a distinguished group of women educators and technology leaders including:
• Dr. Deanne Cranford-Wesley, department coordinator of the Information System Security program at Forsyth Technical Community College, and an NCI fellow
• Dr. Denise Pheils, professor, Owens Community College, and an NCI fellow
• Levorn B. Smalley, industry navigator IT/cybersecurity, Anne Arundel, Workforce Development Corporation
• Catherine W. Sanz, president, WIFLE Foundation, Inc.
• Dr. Li-fang Shih, associate dean of technology, Excelsior College
• Dr. Sherly Abraham, faculty program director for IT and cybersecurity, Excelsior College
• Cynthia Van Der Kooi, senior technical project manager, Innovative Solutions
