National CyberWatch Center Aligns Information Security Curricula to National Cybersecurity Workforce Framework
Largo, Maryland (PRWEB) October 29, 2015 -- The National CyberWatch Center has aligned its new and updated Information Security curricula to the National Cybersecurity Workforce Framework job roles.
The Framework, under the auspices of the National Institute of Standards and Technology-led National Initiative for Cybersecurity Education (NICE), is an effort to define the cybersecurity population “consistently, using standardized terms” in order to more effectively “educate, recruit, train, develop, and retain a highly-qualified workforce". The Framework identifies and classifies the requirements of cybersecurity workers in seven categories (Operate and Maintain, Protect and Defend, Investigate, Collect and Operate, Analyze, Securely Provision, and Oversight and Development). Within each category, Specialty Areas provide recommendations on typical job roles (e.g., Network Security Analyst).
The mapping of the National CyberWatch Center's five degrees and nine certificates to the Framework's job roles provides a guide for schools that have adopted (or intent to adopt) the National CyberWatch Center's model curriculum in order to develop degrees and/or certificates, or assemble courses that meet the cybersecurity workforce roles defined in the Framwork. For schools that have not adopted the National CyberWatch model curriculum, it will provide a process that can be adapted to unique curriculum requirements.
