National CyberWatch Center Extends Successful Curriculum Standards Panel Initiative
LARGO, Md. (PRWEB) November 07, 2017 -- With a grant from the National Security Agency (NSA), the National CyberWatch Center initiative to incorporate a standard for cybersecurity curriculum into mainstream education is expanding. The Curriculum Standards Panel is created to be a durable, respected authority on curriculum design for information security fundamentals courses.
The National CyberWatch Center is currently seeking highly qualified individuals to serve as members of the Curriculum Standards Panel. This panel will play a central role in defining the design of the curriculum that will align with the NSA Centers of Academic Excellence Knowledge Units, National Initiative for Cybersecurity Education (NICE) National Cybersecurity Workforce Framework Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs), as well as industry competency and capability maturity models.
Members will be credited as authors of a curriculum standard that will be available for free through the NSA National Centers of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense program.
The National CyberWatch curriculum committee is led by Dr. David Tobey, National CyberWatch’s Director of Research and Assessment. Members of the Committee will collaborate and correspond with experts in the field of cybersecurity, continuing education, and higher education-level curriculum to ensure an optimal experience for students.
“Our mission is to identify the learning objectives, concepts, procedures, situational judgments, and intellective abilities required to master cybersecurity foundational principles, techniques, tactics, and protocols,” stated Dr. Tobey. “Panel members will be leading a critical innovation needed in cybersecurity education to raise the capability maturity of our nation’s information technology and services workforce by developing standards for a competency-based curriculum.”
The curriculum standards will be the first to align the classroom instruction of cybersecurity with a real-time assessment of professional job performance standards. Members will also be responsible for advising on the skill practice facilities required to accommodate the new curriculum.
