National Family Voices Announces the Release of the Spanish Bright Futures Family Pocket Guide: Bright Futures Guía Para Las Familias
Albuquerque, New Mexico (PRWEB) April 10, 2014 -- National Family Voices announces the release of the Bright Futures Guía para las Familias – Criando bebés, niños y adolescentes saludables, 2a edicion. It is the companion to the popular English Bright Futures Family Pocket Guide, released in 2012. This small, fun, easy-to-use book is designed to help families support health and wellness for their children at every age. The 2nd Edition is reorganized for greater ease of use and has many updates and new information. Translated into “universal” Spanish, the guide has the same variety of family resources found in the English version, with Spanish equivalents where possible.
“The Bright Futures Family Pocket Guide is a beacon for all Spanish-speaking families that are on their way to raising healthy children with or without special health care needs or disabilities. The practical and resourceful information provided in this health care guide will certainly inspire, motivate, and engage these families in helping their children to reach their fullest potential.”
—Monica Bernot, Exceptional Children’s Assistance Center (NC) Parent Worker and Pocket Guide Translator
“The Pocket Guide condenses important information, making it easy for families to use as a reference. Families can take the Guide with them to their children’s primary care and dental appointments so they can ask questions of their providers and bring up concerns with confidence. In each section, the box titled ‘What’s Important for This Visit’ gives a great checklist that families can use to talk to their health professionals.”
—Sharon Esch, Mother of two, including a 6-year old son with autism, New Mexico
The Bright Futures Family Pocket Guide was developed for families by families, in partnership with the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) and other professionals, based on the AAP’s Bright Futures: Guidelines for the Health Supervision of Infants, Children, and Adolescents (3rd ed.). Bright Futures is recognized as the gold standard of pediatric preventive care in the Affordable Care Act.
“Family Voices is pleased to be able to publish the Spanish edition of the Bright Futures Family Pocket Guide and expresses our appreciation to the American Academy of Pediatrics Bright Futures National Center to make this possible,” announces Family Voices National President Molly Cole. “Our work strives to provide families and professionals with useful information to ensure healthy lives for children with special health care needs and disabilities. We hope to get this booklet into the hands of as many families as possible to promote health and wellness for children everywhere.” Bright Futures is funded by the US Department of Health and Human Services, Health Resources and Services Administration, Maternal and Child Health Bureau through a cooperative agreement with the American Academy of Pediatrics.
Health insurance providers note the value of the Bright Futures Family Pocket Guide:
“In this one handy, easy-to-read guide, multiple resources and pearls of wisdom are provided to help parents navigate the complex health care system. Raising children takes a lot of love and care, and the more information parents and families have, the better. I would encourage parents to take the time to review this information.”
—Eugene Sun, MD, MBA, Vice President & Chief Medical Officer, BlueCross BlueShield of New Mexico
Development of the Pocket Guide is a project of the National Family Voices Project IMPACT that promotes health and wellness for children. Project IMPACT is supported by a grant to Family Voices from the Maternal and Child Health Bureau.
“The Bright Futures Family Pocket Guide supports families with information that helps create healthy lifestyles. The Guide does this with simple, practical, accessible tips for families and children, and also includes important information about health and wellness that is specifically for children and youth with special health care needs and disabilities.”
