National Foundation for Infectious Diseases Recognized for Flu Season Awareness Activities
Bethesda, Maryland (PRWEB) April 29, 2014 -- The National Foundation for Infectious Diseases (NFID) has been selected as the Honorable Mention recipient of the 2014 National Adult and Influenza Immunization Summit (NAIIS) Immunization Excellence Award for Overall Flu Season Activities.
The 2014 NAIIS awards recognize individuals and organizations that have made extraordinary contributions towards improving vaccination rates within their communities during 2013 and exemplify the meaning of the “immunization neighborhood”—collaboration, coordination, and communication among immunization stakeholders.
The Immunization Excellence Award recognizes NFID for its overall 2013-14 flu season awareness activities including the Annual Influenza/Pneumococcal News Conference which convened a collaborative partnership of government, non-profit, and industry to launch the flu season and urge vaccination for all individuals. NFID brought together many key leading medical/public health groups to demonstrate a strong and unified commitment to disease prevention, and reinforce the importance of annual influenza vaccination for all individuals 6 months and older.
The NFID Annual Influenza/Pneumococcal News Conference is viewed by many in the media and immunization community as the “opening bell” for flu season. More than 1,000 media placements resulted in 540 million impressions, including top-tier consumer and trade print and online coverage, and more than 300 television segments and 173 radio spots.
NFID’s comprehensive influenza awareness initiative also included the following:
“Leading by Example” features nearly 50 organizations, celebrities, and corporate and community leaders getting vaccinated throughout the season via the website, Twitter, and Facebook.
Flu Awareness Night with the Washington Nationals, a local baseball event held September 18, 2013, featured NFID's new PSA, "Freddie the Flu Detective," on the Jumbotron and reached a crowd of 36,000 fans.
Partnership with Parade.com reached consumers with targeted influenza and pneumococcal messages, including articles and ads on the website and in Parade magazine, resulting in more than 6 million impressions.
The Immunization Excellence Award will be presented to NFID at the NAIIS Awards Luncheon on May 14, 2014 in Atlanta, GA.
The National Foundation for Infectious Diseases (NFID) is a non-profit, tax-exempt 501(c)(3) organization founded in 1973 dedicated to educating the public and healthcare professionals about the causes, treatment, and prevention of infectious diseases across the lifespan.
