National Pen makes 1 million children happy with undelivered promotional gifts
(PRWEB UK) 26 November 2015 -- National pen has donated the symbolic 1 millionth pen to Edukans, a professional educational development organisation headquartered in the Netherlands, in order to celebrate the partnership of these two enterprises in the continuous effort to help African children in need.
Since 2012, National Pen has made sure all their undelivered promotional products go to Edukans and in November 2015, this figure has reached 1 million.
National Pen is a worldwide promotional products supplier which, in 2015 only, has sent over 50 million free promotional pen samples around the globe, but has also contributed to a moment of happiness for 1 million children throughout this initiative.
Everything started in 2011, during a study trip to Kenya for Edukans, when a Dutch teacher became aware of the problems Kenyan people face every day, like the lack of basic survival needs, but also, she experienced the joy of teaching to African populations.
When on her first day at school she saw a smile appearing on a skinny child’s face after receiving a notebook and a pen as a gift, she felt for the first time, the joy of giving and an idea came in her mind.
She realised she must tell someone about the impact that these gifts had on one of her pupils. She remembered that she knew someone in Spring Global Delivery Solutions, which has been responsible for the postal distribution of National Pen mailings, as well as for the collection of their undelivered samples, for many years, to 21 countries all over the world.
So her story convinced National Pen, with the help of Spring, to start donating their undelivered pens to Edukans as part of the “shoe box project”. Since then, this project has helped African school children in need by supplying boxes full of pens and notebooks that inspire hope and dreams.
National pen and Spring didn’t waste any time and quickly organised things so that Edukans was ready to receive all the undelivered pens and gadgets.
How exactly did they do that? The companies had to figure out how the pens could be delivered to the Edukans premises and more importantly, how to get the thousands of pens and other gadgets out of their envelopes.
Different enterprises supported the project.
The second of October 2012, the first 20 pallets with the undelivered envelopes coming from the Spring sorting center in Belgium were sent to the Werkdag sheltered workshop in Netherlands. Here, the National Pen envelopes were stored and then opened, one by one, in order to get the pens and the other promotional gadgets out of them, ready to be used for the shoe box project.
So far, National Pen Europe with the collaboration of Spring, VN Logistics, the Dutch government, Werkdag and Edukans has been responsible for over 1 million happier African children.
