National Research Shows Effectiveness of Group Excellence Mentoring/Tutoring
Dallas, TX (PRWEB) January 26, 2014 -- New results published by a research team from multiple universities, including the University of Texas at Austin, show that tutoring by Group Excellence produces positive gains in student math scores. The Supplemental Educational Services: Integrated Qualitative and Quantitative Study of Implementation and Impact (SESIQ2) workgroup analyzed data from multiple school districts nationwide, including Dallas Independent School District.
The updated results, which were presented privately to Dallas ISD in August 2013, reflect the latest data from the 2011-12 school year. Previous results, based on data from 2009-10, also showed that Group Excellence had a positive impacts on math scores in Dallas.
“Results we presented to DISD in August 2013… show that Group Excellence was effective in increasing students' math achievement in the 2011-12 school year,” says Carolyn Heinrich, Director of the Center for Health and Social Policy at the University of Texas and Senior Research Team Member of the SESIQ2 study. “We appreciate [Group Excellence’s] involvement in our study, as not all providers are willing to open up their programs to our fieldwork (i.e., observations of tutoring sessions)”.
These positive results are consistent with Dallas ISD’s own research studies, which highlighted Group Excellence’s results multiple times for school years from 2005-2011. The 2010-11 Dallas ISD report said, “Students receiving tutoring from Apex Academics and Group Excellence had significantly higher horizontal mean scores than those from other providers or non-enrolled students. Mean scores from Apex Academics and Group Excellence were approximately 30 to 40 points higher than means for other providers and SES-eligible, non-enrolled students.”
