4 High Schools or High School sponsored clubs win $2,000 – 10 win honorable mention
The National Safety Council, Nebraska today announced the winners of the Click It Don't Risk It public service announcement (PSA) contest for Nebraska high school students. The contest is part of the Click It, Don’t Risk It statewide seat belt awareness initiative to warn Nebraska teens about the dangers of driving or riding in a vehicle without using a seat belt.
“Tragically, last year, 71% of Nebraska teens who died in crashes were not wearing seat belts. Education is an important part of our strategy to increase seatbelt usage in Nebraska,” said Beverly Reicks, President/CEO of the National Safety Council, Nebraska. “It's critical that we educate teens about the danger of being unrestrained in a motor vehicle. The focus of this campaign was to create awareness and engage high school students about seat belt safety. We were thrilled with the response that we received from students across Nebraska and the campaign’s social media reach.”
As part of the PSA contest, Nebraska high school students produced a 30-second video using the theme “What have you got to lose?”. Fifty nine submissions were received from across Nebraska. Four winning PSAs -- one from each school class (A, B, C, D) – were selected along with nine honorable mention awards, including one created in Spanish. Submissions were judged on the message and a social media score tracked via Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram. The campaign resulted more than 11 million impressions on social media.
The winning PSAs receive $2,000 with its video played at a theatre in or near its community. A generous contribution from AAA provided prize money for the schools earning honorable mentions. Rose White of AAA said, “I was impressed with the quality and thoughtfulness of the videos. AAA is pleased to recognize the efforts of the students who are helping to educate other teens and the public about the value of always wearing a safety belt.” Each honorable mention PSA earns $500 and some may be featured at local theatres.

Special recognition to Johnson County Central High School for developing their seat belt messaging in Spanish.
