National Security Company Mission Essential Rolls Out with Veterans Cycling Group to Support Warfighter at Home, Cancer Research
Columbus, OH (PRWEB) July 31, 2013 -- Mission Essential today announced its partnership with Ride 2 Recovery (R2R) – a non-profit that uses cycling to help injured veterans. “Ride 2 Recovery helps injured veterans heal through the challenge of cycling long distances using hand cycles, recumbents, tandems, and road bikes,” said R2R founder and president John Wordin, himself a competitive cyclist. “These rehabilitative rides are a way for them to rebuild their confidence while healing mentally and physically. We appreciate the support of Mission Essential in fulfilling our mission to help veterans individually while bringing them together as a team.”
“Mission Essential has supported the warfighter abroad since 2004 and is now supporting the warfighter at home with R2R, which helps healing heroes through cycling,” said CEO Peter Horvath. “This effort ties together our commitment to veterans with a charity that fights cancer in our own backyard.” With a corporate staff that’s about 30 percent former military, supporting veterans groups has long been a staple of corporate culture for Mission Essential, which was founded by two veterans.
This partnership is being launched at Pelotonia 2013 where ten R2R injured veterans – including three who have also fought cancer – will join the Mission Essential Peloton for the bike ride in Columbus, August 9-11.
Founded in 2008, Pelotonia was established with the objective to fund life-saving cancer research. Pelotonia is a three-day experience that includes a weekend of cycling, entertainment and volunteerism. Pelotonia is able to direct 100 percent of every rider-raised dollar to cancer research at The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center – James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institute.
