National Social Security Advisors Selects Business Development Officer
(PRWEB) November 17, 2015 -- Warrick M. Graves of Kansas City, a financial services veteran on retirement planning, has been selected business development officer for the National Social Security Advisors program.
Marc Kiner, partner at Premier Social Security Consulting in Cincinnati, announced the appointment today. Premier educates professional advisors on the nation’s Social Security system so they can counsel their clients on how to maximize lifetime Social Security benefits.
Professional advisors who take the Social Security education course and pass a certification exam qualify to become certified NSSA Advisors®.
Premier taught the Social Security curriculum for the National Social Security Association in more than 20 cities this year.
The organization is the first and largest Social Security education certification program nationwide. Financial advisors, insurance agents, certified public accountants, attorneys and other professional advisors typically enroll in the Social Security program.
Kiner and partner Jim Blair, a former Social Security Administration manager, present course curricula to private professional advisor organizations. They also offer the NSSA education via webinar and on-demand, in addition to live classrooms.
Graves has a 34-year career in the financial services industry and focuses on retirement planning. He has worked for Merrill Lynch, Prudential and Wells Fargo. He retired from Wells Fargo in 2011, and is the co-author of Stop Probate Now: The Only Living Trust Book You’ll Ever Need to Read (Trust Publishing Company, 1991). He is an ERISA 3/21 Independent Fiduciary.
“Even though Congress has limited claiming options for Social Security recipients, Social Security remains the most important retirement revenue stream for many millions of Americans and the need for professional advisors to learn the system is still there,” said Kiner. “Graves is knowledgeable, dynamic and connects with people, exactly the person we want to help grow NSSA’s footprint nationwide faster. Graves graduated from Wichita State University in 1972, and engaged in graduate studies at Washburn School of Law and Cincinnati Christian Bible Seminary. He also holds licenses in real estate and life, health and variable annuities and securities.
His consulting firm NIMC provides business development services to financial services companies. He is also an ordained minister and is the pastor of Fellowship Christian Church in Kansas City, Kansas.
“In order to be valuable to clients, professional advisors must understand every aspect of retirement—a client’s incoming revenue; their Social Security benefit; and his or her company’s 401K and personal savings numbers," said Graves. "Most advisors do not know enough about the Social Security aspect to do an adequate job as a retirement planner.”
Graves said a Social Security officer is an order taker, not an advisor, and each retiree needs a unique, personalized claiming strategy.
“Each case is different,” said Graves. “We have to look at a retiree’s health situation, life expectancy and other anticipated revenue sources to determine the best strategy. Married couples can leave $100,000 or more on the table because they are not aware of claiming strategies open to them.”
Premier partners developed a “three-legged stool” concept that outlines the three strategies to maximize benefits for a married couple: delaying taking Social Security until Full Retirement Age; coordinating spousal benefits using Claim and Suspend and Restricted Application strategies; and maximizing surviving spouse lifetime benefits.
Graves said his goal is to help the nation’s financial advisors utilize the best asset gathering tool available today, which is knowing Social Security guidelines.
