National Summer Learning Association (NSLA) & myON Partner to Offer Literacy Solutions to U.S. School Districts
Balimore, MD (PRWEB) October 28, 2013 -- NSLA serves as a network hub for summer learning program providers and stakeholders across the country, providing tools, resources, and expertise to improve program quality, generate support, and increase youth access and participation in programs that help to close the achievement gap. In 2009, NSLA launched the NVSS Network with the goal of transforming and repositioning the role and impact of summer school programs.
“The importance of providing young people with exciting and engaging ways to read during the summer months cannot be understated,” said NSLA’s Interim CEO Sarah Pitcock. “For low-income youth in particular, it is critical to create a seamless pathway of learning from school year to school year. We are thrilled that through our partnership with myON, thousands of students from NVSS districts will have access to skill-appropriate, engaging books to read over the summer. Just as importantly, school districts will have a powerful, research-based tool to track reading progress over the summer and start the 2014 school year empowered by data and results.”
With the addition of myON’s flagship product myON reader, NSLA is able to further its vision by providing NVSS districts with an innovative, personalized literacy solution that gives every student unlimited access to over 4,000 enhanced digital books with flexible supports that are matched to their interests and targeted reading levels, along with tools to track and measure their reading progress. NVSS districts will be able to provide their students access to myON reader either in a structured summer school program or for independent reading.
myON President Todd Brekhus explained, “Research tells us that giving kids access to books that they are interested in, at their level and within a digital environment in which they are more comfortable will increase their engagement, leading them to read more and in turn become better readers. Through our partnership with NSLA, we look forward to partnering with NVSS districts to provide students with the opportunity to include reading among the many other fun activities that are offered.”
