National Talcum Powder Lawyers File Lawsuit Alleging Ovarian Cancer
St. Louis, MO (PRWEB) April 29, 2015 -- Attorneys representing women and families in national talcum powder lawsuits have filed a new suit alleging ovarian cancer from talcum powder use on behalf of an Illinois woman. According to the complaint filed, the woman alleges she developed ovarian cancer as a result of using talcum powder products manufactured by Johnson & Johnson. This product liability lawsuit is currently underway in Madison County Circuit Court in Illinois, according to the firm.
The plaintiff, Candace Lewis, first learned she had ovarian cancer on June 23, 2013, which she attributes to her longtime use of Johnson’s Baby Powder and Shower to Shower products, according to court documents. The suit claims that the link between genital dusting with talcum powder and ovarian cancer has been proven in more than twenty studies over the past three decades, according to court documents.
The suit also alleges that the defendants funded a task force aimed at defending the use of talc in order to protect regulation of talcum powder in cosmetic and hygiene products, according to court documents. Alleging the defendants knew of and concealed the link between talcum powder and cancer, this lawsuit seeks compensation on eight counts of fraud and negligence, according to court documents. The lawsuit alleges that product advertising promoted talcum powder as a symbol of freshness and purity, never warning consumer of the potential risk, which resulted in her use of talcum powder, according to the court documents.
This suit, Candace Lewis v. Johnson & Johnson, et al, was filed in March of 2015 against the cosmetic company Johnson & Johnson, the talc manufacturer Imerys Talc, and Walgreens, the drug store that sells the products in question, according to court documents. The use of talc in cosmetic and hygiene products is unregulated in the United States, according to court documents.
